Is there any special advice for women during their stay in Egypt?

Egypt is considered the most liberal Islamic country in the Middle East. There are countless tourist facilities here, such as hotels, Nile cruise ships, Resorts, bars and casinos where guests in general and women in particular can feel so free to wear what they want and behave as they want. On the other hand, in less touristy areas, women should dress moderately and casually. Arms and legs should be covered. The Cairo metro has a compartment for women only. How can I apply for a visa to Egypt?

You have the option of applying for the visa in advance at the Egyptian embassy or consulate or upon arrival in Egypt. What type of entry visas does Egypt grant travelers?

In general, there are three different types of entry visas in Egypt.

  • The first is a non-tourist entry visa.
  • The second type of visa is a transit visa. It is valid for a short period of time and is used for transit purposes.
  • The third type of visa is the tourist visa.

It is valid for a maximum of three months and is usually the visa that travelers receive. It can be issued for multiple entries, depending on the tourist’s needs.

How can I apply for an entry visa to Egypt if I do not live in my home country?

What are the opening times for shops and businesses?

Most shops and businesses are open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. But in larger cities and tourist areas, the shops work around the clock.

Is it allowed to visit historical mosques in Egypt as a non-Muslim?

Non-Muslims are always welcome to visit mosques in Egypt. Even so, it is advisable to ask permission if you want to go to mosques outside of major cities where people are not used to tourists. Exceptions also apply to mosques in which relatives of the Prophet Mohammed are buried or during prayer time.

Is there a specific dress code when visiting mosques?

There is no special dress code during a tour. However, one should be careful not to enter the mosque with shoes and wear decent clothing as possible. Women should cover their hair.

What are the main historical mosques in Cairo?

Cairo, also known as the City of 1000 Minarets, has a large number of remarkable historical mosques. The most notable and important of all the mosques is the Mohamed Ali Mosque in the Saladin Citadel, which was built in the early 19th century. The Sultan Hassan Mosque from 1361, the Al Azhar Mosque from 970 and the Amr Ibn El Aas Mosque from 640. It was the first mosque in Africa. Furthermore the Ahmed Ibn Tuloun Mosque from the year 878 and the Al Hakem Mosque from 1013. Visiting times are from sunrise to sunset.

Are tourists allowed to visit Christian monuments?

The same applies to church tours as to mosques. One should pay attention to proper clothing when visiting churches or monasteries.

What are the most famous Christian monuments and landmarks?

Christianity made its entry into Egypt very early on. The earliest signs date back to the 1st century. AD Egypt has many interesting churches and monasteries. What are the check-in and check-out times in hotels?

As with most hotels around the world, check-in time is 12 noon. If a guest arrives at the hotel before this appointment, he or she has to wait until noon to move into the room. There is also an exclusive limousine service that Cairo Airport provides for guests with higher demands. There is also a shuttle bus from the airport to the city center every 20 minutes. The bus is the cheapest means of transport. However, if you travel with a lot of luggage, you should refrain from this bus, as the space is very limited.

Is it a good idea to use the train for distant destinations such as Cairo - Aswan to use?

In general, the standard of trains on the Egyptian Railways is quite good. The rail network of the Egyptian Railway connects the Nile Valley with the Delta, the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean coast. Since the domestic flights are quite expensive, it is advisable to take the sleeper train from Cairo to Aswan. The trains leave Cairo at 9:00 p.m. and arrive in Luxor at around 4 a.m. and in Aswan around 7 a.m. The sleeper trains are very comfortable with full board.

Can you take the train to Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh?

There is no train connection to these cities. Only buses or airplanes go to these destinations.
