Hiking in Egypt

12 days from SFr. 2’690.-

12 days Egypt with a
4-day hiking trip

Hiking in Egypt? AdamTravel makes this travel dream possible! In these 12 days we would of course not want to include the highly cultural sights such as the pyramids of Giza and the step pyramid of Saqqara. At the beginning of the trip you will experience the lively and happy atmosphere around Cairo.

Then it becomes noticeably quieter and you wander through the beautiful nature of Egypt for a whole four days. Your starting point for this adventure is St. Katharina, at the foot of Mount Moses in Sinai. From there, experience the magnificent mountains with breathtaking views, such as the Gulf of Suez. Bathe in natural pools made from rainwaterfalls and view ruins along the way. Are you a camping fanatic? Look forward to restful nights under the stars and around the cozy campfire!

Finally, the Red Sea with its crystal clear water and colorful coral reefs awaits you. We look forward to accompanying you on this special journey!

Booking this trip on request.

AdamTravel looks forward to taking you to the land of our hearts.

Travel program in detail

Day 1: Welcome to Cairo

At the international airport in Cairo our German speaking representative will be waiting for you with a sign “ADAMTRAVEL”. He will help you through the immigration formalities. Transfer in a private air-conditioned vehicle to your hotel. The travel companion will help you check in and explain the travel program to you. The rest of the day can be used as freetime. In the evening you can enjoy a wonderful meal.

Day 2: Giza pyramids and Saqqara step pyramid

The day starts with a hearty breakfast in the hotel. Together with an experienced German speaking Egyptologist you will drive to the pyramids of Giza: Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinos. Then admire the three pyramids from the panoramic view from a distance.

The highlights are not over for today: Now the Great Sphinx is waiting for you. Only she herself knows what secrets the mystical Sphinx has kept for millennia. You end this packed but perfect cultural morning with a visit to the valley temple of King Chephren. At this point you deserve a lovely Egyptian lunch in a traditional restaurant. After lunch you will finally discover the Saqqara: the mysterious world of the pharaohs. Return to the hotel.

Day 3: City tour of Cairo and visit to the Egyptian Museum

Breakfast in the hotel. You will spend the morning with a city tour of Cairo and a visit to the Egyptian Museum. The Egyptian Museum contains over 120,000 pieces of the pharaonic monuments as well as Tutankhamun’s brilliant collection.

Alternatively: If the new National Museum is already open, you can also choose to visit it. In the National Museum you can learn a lot about all Egyptian civilizations, starting from prehistory to modern civilization. You can also admire more than twenty different mummies of pharaohs.

A fine, traditional lunch on the Nile awaits you.

In the afternoon, the Coptic Cairo is on the program. Some of the oldest Christian churches are located here. Visit the Hanging Church and the Ben Ezra Synagogue.

Finally, round off the day with a stroll through the lively Khan El Khalili bazaar. Return to the hotel.

Day 4: From Cairo via Sinai to St. Katharina

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and then meet your expert guide. You drive over the Suez Canal to Sinai and stop at the Eyoun Moussa springs on the way. Eyoun Moussa springs are home to the tamarisk trees that overlook the Gulf of Suez. According to the Book of Exodus, this was the first stop for the Israelites during the Exodus from Egypt, after they left Rameses’ city. The route led the people on to the Bitter Lakes in Ismailia, to the source of Moses and finally via Wadi Firan to St. Catherine to Mount Moses – there where Moses received the ten commandments (tablet of the law).

Back to your stopover: Here you can also see the first Christian community, which was built in the third century in Rephidim near the Firan Oasis. Today this is the nunnery.

Your route then continues to St. Katharina, where you will have dinner and spend the night at the Hotel Morgenland.

Day 5: Mount Sinai, St. Catherine's Monastery and hike to Wadi Elzawatein

This early morning you set out to climb Mount Sinai – also known as the Mount of Moses – in the dark. It is the Holy Mountain where Moses received the Ten Commandments from God. Once at the top, you will be rewarded for your efforts with a contemplative experience: the breathtaking sunrise.

After the hike back to St. Katharina, you can look forward to a wonderful breakfast. Then we visit it at 1585 meters above sea level. Katharinenkloster located at the foot of Mount Sinai. The monastery was built by the Empress St. Helena, mother of Constantine, in the third century around the burning bush and the well of Moses. Finally, in the sixth century, Emperor Justinian built a large fortress that is considered to be one of the oldest functioning and surviving monasteries in the world.

After lunch we start loading the camels. The subsequent hike to the high mountains of St. Katharina takes about an hour. The hike continues to Nakeb Abou Giffa. There you will spend the first night at the campsite in Wadi Elzawatein.

Enjoy dinner before finding the cozy and restful sleep under the stars and among the wonderful gardens and bustans, around the campfire.

Day 6: Hike to Wadi Abou Walee via Jabel Albab to Camping Farsh Elromana

After breakfast we start our day hike towards Wadi Abou Walee. From there you continue towards Jabel Albab, where you have a breathtaking and unique view of the Gulf of Suez.

Then we will have dinner and spend the night under the stars and among the gardens of the Farsh Elromana campsite.

Day 7: Hike to the Galt El Elazrak natural pool and Abou Twita Camping

The invigorating breakfast makes you fit for today’s day hike. The first stage destination is the fascinating natural pools, which are filled by rainwaterfalls – called Galt El Elazrak. Here you can take a swim. Then we have lunch.

After lunch we continue our hike to Abou Twita campsite. Dinner and another night under the stars await you.

Day 8: Hike to Gabel Abbas Besha, Wadi El Talaa and Nuweiba

Today the hike takes us towards Gabel Abbas Basha. Here we visit the ruins of the unfinished Abbas Basha Palace. It was built in 1853 by Abas Bash Helmy after he suffered a heart attack. The doctors then advised him to find a place with fresh air to relax. To find out whether the air was good, he did a test here: Using a piece of meat, he looked to see whether it would spoil less quickly here than in other places. The result was convincing. Even today, the cool, fresh and clean air in Gabel Abbas Basha is considered remarkable.

Then the trail goes down to Wadi El Talaa for lunch. You can take a shower in the village. After these days of hiking you can finally get back in a vehicle and look forward to a hotel bed on the drive to Nuweiba.

Day 9 to 11: Nuweiba

After these impressive and eventful days, you have earned a break on the beach with clear turquoise water in Nuweiba! Let yourself be pampered by the friendly staff in the beautiful complex and enjoy the service.

You can book various excursions on site or have them organized. For example, evening walks to the city of Nuweiba. There you will find a variety of authentic Bedouin-style restaurants right by the sea. Enjoy the delicious, traditional Egyptian cuisine by candlelight.

You can also book a day trip to the breathtaking desert landscape of the White Canyon or to the oasis of Ein Hudra, go on diving or snorkeling excursions or go on a desert safari.

Of course, you can also just relax in the beautiful hotel complex and soak up the warm Egyptian sun.
