Day 2: Pyramids of Giza and El Fayoum
After breakfast, the first highlight of your trip to Egypt is already on the program: the excursion to the pyramids of Giza. You will visit the three pyramids Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinos. These are considered to be the oldest and most famous structures of mankind. Then drive to El Fayoum, where you will enjoy lunch with an Egyptian host family and experience your first highlight with the locals. Overnight in El Fayoum.
Day 3: Oriental breakfast and tour with locals
In the morning you can enjoy a real Egyptian breakfast consisting of falafel, fool, feteer and honey. Your local guide will then accompany you on a short safari tour to Fayoum, to the Wadi El Rayan depression. The Wadi El Rayan National Park is about 100 km from Cairo and is surrounded by two huge freshwater lakes. Since the lakes are of different heights, a wonderful, seemingly endless waterfall is created at the confluence. A natural spectacle of the highest pleasure! End the evening with the beautiful sunset at Lake Qarun. Return to Cairo and overnight in a hotel.
Day 4: El Monufia
The day starts early in the morning: you drive to the agricultural village of El Monufia. El Mounifia is the birthplace of Egypt’s two former presidents, Anwar as-Sadat and Muhammad Husni Mubarak. There you will spend some wonderful moments in this rural idyll. You will have the authentic lunch in the middle of the field today. Later you will experience one of these magnificent Egyptian sunsets again. For today’s overnight stay you have the choice: either completely local with a host family or in a local hostel.
Day 5: Unusual adventure in El Monufia
You will have breakfast with a host family. Are you ready for the adventure that follows? Namely, you explore Egypt’s local neighborhood on a donkey or a horse. Afterwards, you can take a tour with the locals, where you can experience the rural atmosphere: Your tour begins with a visit to a traditional local market, where you see Egypt through the eyes of the locals. The Egyptian lunch takes place in the green in the fresh air. You will then be served an aromatic tea in a local café. After tea, the return journey to Cairo follows.
Day 6: El Minia
At 7:00 am we leave for El Minia. The journey goes from Cairo to Middle Egypt, to visit the necropolis of Tuna El-Gebel, with well-preserved tombs, underground burial galleries and with the ibis and baboon mummies. Lunch in a restaurant. This is followed by the drive to the hotel in El Minia for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: El Minia - Assiut
After breakfast at the hotel, visit the rock tombs of Beni Hassan. The princes were buried in these rock tombs during the Middle Kingdom. The unique pictorial representations and inscriptions report on everyday activities at that time, such as handicrafts, sports, games and hunting. You can then look forward to a local lunch. We continue to Tell El-Amarna, the former capital of the ancient Egyptian king Akhenaten. Akhenaten founded and built Tell El-Amarna in honor of the sun god Aton. Then the journey to Assuit takes place.
Day 8: Temple of Abydos (Sethos I) and Temple of Dender
Your German-speaking tour guide will pick you up at the hotel in the morning and drive you to Dendara, where you will visit the temple of the same name. This was dedicated to the goddess Hathor, the goddess of Egyptian mythology, the mother goddess and “sky goddess of the West”, goddess of love and art. The journey continues to Abydos to visit the Sethos mortuary temple. Seti I himself built this temple for his own death cult and that of his father Ramses I. After the sightseeing, you will fortify yourself with a delicious lunch before the drive to your hotel in Luxor.
Day 9: Thebes East and West - Aswan
The onward journey begins in the morning: with your guide you set out for the western bank of the Nile (Thebes-West) to visit the three tombs in the Valley of the Kings. The royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings are carved into the rock. The excavators also found Tutankhamun’s famous treasure here. Then it goes on to Deir El Bahary, north of Thebes on the west side of the Nile. The marvelous mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut is located in Deir El Bahary. She was the only female pharaoh in the history of ancient Egypt. This temple nestles against the limestone cliffs and is unique due to its multi-tiered structure. On the way back, you will stop at the Colossi of Memnon, a temple facility in Luxor. After lunch, the journey continues to the eastern bank of the Nile to the Karnak temple complex and the sacred lake. The complex extends over a huge area and includes several temples and chapels made of white and red limestone. Then drive back to the banks of the Nile and the imposing Luxor Temple complex. Overnight in a Nubian guest house.
Day 10: Abu Simbel, Ramses II rock temple, and overnight in the Eskaleh Nubian Ecolodge
Today you can look forward to a trip into the desert. After breakfast at the guesthouse you will drive to Abu Simbel – the way there leads through the seemingly endless desert. In Abu Simbel, on the southern border of Egypt, you can marvel at the rock temples of Ramses II. You stay at the Eskaleh Nubian Ecolodge in Abu Simbel.
Day 11: Nubian life in Aswan
After breakfast, drive back to Aswan. Once there, visit the temple of Philae (also called Hut-chenti, “House of the Beginning”). Afterward, tour the Nubian Museum and the quaint Nubian village.
