On August 2, 2027, one of the rarest and most spectacular natural phenomena of all will occur over Egypt: a total solar eclipse in Egypt in 2027, which will plunge the sky above the legendary Karnak Temple in Luxor into complete darkness for several minutes. With a totality lasting about six minutes, this event ranks among the longest total solar eclipses of the past 400 years—a moment that neither astronomy enthusiasts nor lovers of Egypt should miss.

This 10-day tour combines the 2027 Luxor solar eclipse with Egypt’s great classics: the Pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum, a four-night Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, and an excursion to the monumental temples of Abu Simbel. Our Egyptologists from the universities of Cairo and Alexandria will accompany you at every stop.

Experiencing a total solar eclipse over a 5,000-year-old temple is a privilege that occurs only once every few decades at such a significant site. While the next solar eclipse of this magnitude won’t be visible for many years, this trip offers you the perfect combination of a once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event and Egypt’s cultural highlights. Don’t forget your solar eclipse glasses —we’ll make sure you’re fully equipped on this historic day to safely observe every phase of the eclipse.

The grand finale is a four-night Nile cruise aboard the comfortable 5-star M/S Salacia. From the deck, you’ll glide leisurely past palm groves, villages, and temples dating back thousands of years, while going ashore in Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo, and Aswan to visit Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Horus, and the Temple of Philae.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Cairo

After landing in Cairo, you will be warmly welcomed by our German-speaking tour guide and taken to your hotel in a private, air-conditioned vehicle. During check-in, your guide will go over the entire itinerary for your 2027 Egypt Solar Eclipse trip, including all pickup times for the coming days.

Day 2: Pyramids of Giza, Grand Egyptian Museum, and connecting flight to Hurghada

After breakfast and check-out, your guide will take you to the Giza Plateau, where the world-famous Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, and the Valley Temple await you. After lunch at an authentic Egyptian restaurant, you’ll visit the new Grand Egyptian Museum, located just about two kilometers from the pyramids. You’ll then be transferred to Cairo Airport for your domestic flight to Hurghada.

Day 3: Free day in Hurghada

After breakfast, you’ll have the day to yourself—the perfect opportunity to relax by the Red Sea before the highlight of your 2027 Solar Eclipse in Egypt trip.

Day 4: Trip to Luxor and the total solar eclipse at Karnak Temple

The most important day of your trip begins early: Around 4 a.m., you’ll be picked up for a roughly five-hour drive to Luxor so you can arrive at Karnak Temple in time for the 2027 Luxor solar eclipse. The partial phase begins around 10:22 a.m., totality begins around 11:42 a.m. and lasts about six minutes, before the sky brightens completely again around 1:08 p.m. Witness the moon passing in front of the sun and casting the 5,000-year-old columns of the largest religious structure of antiquity into darkness for a few minutes. After this unforgettable natural spectacle, enjoy lunch before being transferred to your Nile cruise ship in Luxor.

Day 5: Luxor West Bank

After breakfast, explore the legendary West Bank of Luxor: the Valley of the Kings with the tombs of 62 pharaohs, the impressive mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, and the imposing Colossi of Memnon. Return to the ship for lunch and dinner, as well as evening entertainment.

Day 6: The Temples of Edfu and Kom Ombo

After breakfast on board, your ship sets sail for Edfu. There, you’ll visit the remarkably well-preserved Temple of Horus, which you’ll traditionally reach by horse-drawn carriage, passing through the authentic daily life of Upper Egypt. Continue on to Kom Ombo to visit the unique double temple with its two entrances and sanctuaries, followed by the journey on to Aswan. Lunch and dinner are served on board.

Day 7: Sightseeing in Aswan

The seventh day of your tour of Egypt is dedicated to two of the country’s most beautiful and best-preserved temple complexes. In Abydos, you’ll visit the Shonet El Zebeeb fortress and the magnificent Temple of Seti I, with its intricate, colorful reliefs, which are among the finest examples of Pharaonic art. Afterward, you’ll continue on to the Temple of Hathor in Dendera, one of Egypt’s best-preserved temples, featuring its famous astronomical ceiling relief. In the late afternoon, you’ll travel on to Luxor, the gateway to the second half of your journey.

Day 8: Abu Simbel and Return Flight to Cairo

In the early morning hours, around 4 a.m., you will be taken to the spectacular temples of Abu Simbel, built by Ramses II and considered among the masterpieces of Ancient Egypt. The two temples, dedicated to Ramses II and his wife Nefertari, were saved from flooding by the Aswan Dam in a unique UNESCO rescue operation. After the tour, you’ll fly back from Aswan to Cairo and be transferred to your hotel.

Day 9: National Museum, Old Cairo, and the Citadel

After breakfast, you’ll visit the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization with its famous Hall of Royal Mummies. You’ll then continue on to historic Old Cairo, home to some of Egypt’s oldest churches, before visiting the Saladin Citadel with its Alabaster Mosque and a magnificent panoramic view of Cairo.

Day 10: Return Trip

After one last breakfast at the hotel, you will be taken to the Cairo airport. With unforgettable memories of the 2027 solar eclipse in Egypt and the country’s greatest treasures, you will begin your journey home.
